Nizatidine Side Effects

Nizatidine is a very popular generic drug that is used to treat high stomach acid conditions in the body, as we touched on in an earlier article.  This site is dedicated to providing information on the drug Nizatidine, including side effects, dosage, and any other information that we can find.  Now onto the point of the article.

Nizatidine Side Effects

Here are some common side effects that are encountered by patients prescribed the generic drug Nizatidine.

Severe Side Effects (Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following issues):

  • Trouble breathing or wheezing
  • Skin irritation in the form of a rash or hives or itching (signs of a serious allergic reaction)
  • Severe stomach pains
  • Dark urine
  • Yellowing of the skin also known as jaundice

These may be the sign of a more serious condition and are something that you should get checked out immediately by a health professional.

Common Nizatidine Side Effects (Contact your doctor if they do not go away or worsen over time):

  • Increased coughing and sneezing
  • Mild stomach pains
  • Diarrhea, unsettled stomach
  • Headaches and dizziness

These are the most common side effects that occur when taking the generic drug Nizatidine, or one of the commercial forms, such as Axid or Tazac.  Please contact your doctor for more information on the side effects.  When a doctor prescribes a medicine like Nizatidine, they are doing so with the thought that benefits of taking the medicine will outweigh the side effects.  This may not be the case with everyone, because everyone’s body is different and they will have different reactions to the drug on their body.  With this in mind, it is important to monitor your body very carefully while you are on the drug, because you can catch some of the more serious side effects before they become a serious health risk for you.  Never try to self diagnose yourself and prescribe medicine to yourself, because a doctor can take a more in depth and detailed look at everything that is going on under the surface.

Nizatidine has been around since 1987, so it has a long history of success treating patients with excessive stomach acid and ulcers.  This is a good drug with a proven track record and one that you should consider.  You must have a prescription to get this drug, unlike some of the other heartburn and stomach acid, ulcer medicines on the market.  We hope you have enjoyed this article and are more informed as a consumer when it comes to your health.  Also know that what you put in your body greatly effects your health.  Changes in diet can have a huge impact on your health and possibly cure your stomach acid and ulcer issues.  Try removing coffee, salt, sugar, fats, and other harmful foods from your diet and see if you have an improvement.  Drugs and pharmaceuticals can help, but you can also help your body out by eating healthy and taking proper care of it.

What is Nizatidine?

Today we are going to be talking about the generic drug Nizatidine and what it is good for preventing and treating.  Nizatidine is a generic drug and its brand name is Axid, Axid AR, and Tazac.  This drug is used to treat conditions of high stomach acid, which can and do lead to stomach ulcers.  If you are suffering from any of these symptoms, then Nizatidine might be a good choice for you: acid reflux, indigestion, heart burn, stomach ulcers, or anything that is caused by too much stomach acid.

How Does Nizatidine Work?

Nizatidine is classified as a histamine-2 blocker, which prevents the production of stomach acid in the body.  Since stomach acid is the main cause of all of the above mentioned issues, Nizatidine is a good option for those who are dealing with the pain of stomach acid issues.  Although, you may want to see what is causing the issues in the first place.  It is normally something in your diet, like coffee, salt, or fried foods, so removing these will also help long term so you are not dependent on a pharmaceutical.

Who Should Take Nizatidine?

Nizatidine is made for people who suffer from too much stomach acid.  Stomach acid is a very powerful substance and too much of it can cause serious issues along with severe discomfort.

Who Should Not Take Nizatidine?

If you are allergic to these types of drugs or other drugs in this category like Pepcid.  They all work in a similar fashion and some people do not take very well to these drugs.

Also, those with kidney and liver issues should speak with their doctor first before taking this drug.  People suffering from stomach cancer should also avoid this drug.

This drug is safe for pregnant women, but it is not safe for the child after birth.  If you have a nursing baby, you should not take the medicine, because the drug can pass through breast milk into the baby.

Children less than 12 years old should also avoid Nizatidine.

How to take Nizatidine?

Taking this drug is very simple.  You normally take the drug twice per day with or without food.  Make sure you follow your doctor’s instructions before taking this drug and read the label thoroughly and also all accompanying information about Nizatidine that the pharmacist may give you.

Nizatidine Forms:

This drug comes in two different forms, tablet and liquid solution.  The tablet comes in 75 mg, 150 mg, and 300 mg.  The initial dosage is 300 mg at night, or 150 mg twice daily.  The tablet is off-white and tastes very bitter.

The Nizatidine oral solution comes in a bubble-gum flavor and is taken in orally.  In each mL there are~15 mg of the active ingredient Nizatidine.

Nizatidine Understood

This just about covers the basic of this generic drug.  If you are interested in taking this drug, you should meet with a doctor to discuss treatment options for your condition.  Also remember that diet plays a huge role in your health and small changes in diet can have a huge impact on your health.  Pharmaceuticals are a good option, but they do not treat the underlying conditions, they are more like a band-aid that cover the issue and keep you moving.  This is good, but not sustainable over the long haul, so make sure that you look for alternative health remedies and not become too dependent on drugs or less than healthy means for treating stomach acid issues.
